Ely Ladies 2s secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Cambs Nomads 2s in an exciting contest that saw them guarantee a 3rd-place finish in East League Division 4 North West.
Despite some early chances, Ely found themselves trailing after just 12 minutes and went into halftime 1-0 down. However, a motivating team talk from Barry sparked a much-improved second-half performance.
Ely’s equaliser came when Sam pounced at the left post to slot the ball home, prompting Ellen to rally the team with a spirited “Back in business!” Moments later, Aisling followed up with another close-range finish after a well-placed assist from Molly, putting Ely 2-1 ahead.
With momentum on their side, Ely extended their lead to 3-1 through a stunning strike from Jemima at the top of the D. Cambs Nomads pulled one back late on after a deflected effort found the net, but Ely remained composed and saw out the win.
The result cements a brilliant season for Ely Ladies 2s, who now finish 3rd with one game to spare. With the club’s 1st team earning promotion to Division 2, the 2s will no doubt be aiming to follow in their footsteps next season and push for a place in Division 3.
