The last league games of the season were played on Saturday 29th March and Ely City Hockey Club finished the season with much to be proud of.
The Ladies 1s are guaranteed promotion next season having finished 2nd in the East Division 3 North West league winning 15 of their games, drawing 4, losing 3 and scoring 61 goals in total. In their final match against Pelicans 2s on Saturday they won 5-0 with Emily U scoring 2 goals, Amanda 2 goals and Tory 1 goal. Captain Rhianne Jones said ‘We’ve been in the top half of the table for a number of years now but this season with some new players and developing young players, we stayed in the top 3 throughout the whole of the season and secured promotion a few weeks before the end of the season. It’s been a fantastic season and we’re really looking forward to playing in Division 2 North West next season!’
The Ladies 2s narrowly missed promotion finishing 3rd in the East Division 4 North West league. Of the 22 games played, they won 15, drew 2 and lost 5 scoring 57 goals in total. The team stayed in the top 4 of the league table all season securing 3rd spot just before the end of the season.
With a number of new players, both adult and juniors, the Ladies 3s had their best season for a number of years winning or drawing 8 of their 17 matches in Division 5 North West.
The Mens teams also had a very good season with the Mens 1s finishing 4th in the East Division 2 North West League winning 10 matches, drawing 5, losing 5 and scoring 76 goals in total. They lost 2-1 to top of the league March Town 1s on Saturday.
Having been promoted into East Division 3 North West at the end of last season, Ely City Mens 2 more than held their own, finishing mid table in 6th place. Despite three goals from Ollie, Keane and Quentin in their match against Cambridge City 4s on Saturday they lost 3-6.
The Mens 3s also had a great season finishing 4th in the East Division 6 North West
